There sure are a lot of supposedly #KDE fans with opinions formed by a murky combination of third hand accounts, reading only dodgy headlines and imagining things in texts they supposedly read.

And supposedly these are people who hate LLMs on account of them being ocean boiling hallucination […]

I don't know what will happen, but I still have faith in #KDE.

With the whole #KDE #AI #LLM discussion going on, I decided to read a bit about the per output token power use of LLMs.
Energy use varies based on model between 0.1J to 5J per output token.

This means, using 1J/token as a base, you would boil 1L of water per ~300000 output tokens.
And this DOES […]

#KDE blocked me for being critical of the direction they're heading on allowing #LLM commits in a few comments. I wish them luck in their new direction, but it will most likely be without me. It's both sad and disappointing. I don't see how encouraging people to be mindful of whether they are […]

Y'know what I did last night, last night I decided "You know what, I can live with this level of jank" and I got to downloading themes and fiddling with colours and making #kde pretty and generally Making Myself Comfortable.

I think this is my sixth time trying KDE, I bounced off it every other […]

I enjoy to use #KDE since more than 27 years. The people behind did an amazing job, delivered a (most of the time) great Linux Desktop experience for me for a very long time. Some of their decisions turned out to be great, some others have been reverted/adjusted - that's life. I do not like LLMs […]

@octarine-wiggle.mastodon.au.ap.brid.gySep 23, 2026, 12:52 AM

The #KDE situation is crazy.

I could accept that there's a tension and incentive to meet any EU sovereign AI initiatives where they're at and that produces a diversity of opinion about what's acceptable, but that is also a bad vibe for a community project and it doesn't mean you can just do […]

Dear #AskFedi,

in the light of double-whammy enslopification of #KDE I'm looking for a new desktop environment.

Requirement zero is no “AI” slop and fash being mocked on sight.

My main requirement is pretty niche, and the reason why I'm asking: docked widgets or panels with widgets that can […]
