Also, gotta say that I used my 3 free months of Apple music but still prefer my radio stations, on my walks and in the car: @3rrrfm.bsky.social and 3 PBS.

In a tiny little conservation area near me. #Epping3076 #WildOz #grasslands

Little white flowers on a stem, with some purple orchid things in the background. All in a grassy field.

These young emus took off in typical chaotic running style when I stopped the car, but then when I got out to take a photo their curiosity got the better of them & they cautiously crept back to have a look at the strange human sitting on the ground!

Thursday birdsday!
Splendid fairywrens are found through much of arid and semi-arid Australia, in mulga and mallee woodland. Males will pluck pink and purple flower petals to give to females as a courting gift.

Little wattlebird v Giggle Chicken!

📍Gembrook, Vic.

A Little Wattlebird with wings flared approaching a perched Kookaburra who is minding his own business. 1 of 3The Wattlebird has now almost reached the nonchalant Kookaburra. 2 of 3With a flourish the Wattlebird flies past the still steadfast Kookaburra not a care in the world. Other birds don’t realise Kookaburras kill snakes for funsies.

Sometimes it's difficult to tell male and female Powerful Owl's apart. We hadn't yet seen the female but something about the chunky fierceness of this POwl suggested male. Powerful by name, and nature and the only bird in Australia that can fly carrying prey heavier than itself. #birds #wildoz

This male Powerful Owl was preening in a very urban Brisbane park. Despite being almost over a busy footpath he and his partner were so high and so well tucked in the branches it was difficult to spot them.

Put some headphones on and enjoy this ethereal predawn soundscape.

The fluty phrases of the Pied Butcherbird are sublime, like music floating across the arid plains.

This is an excerpt from the album "Australia: Outback Dawn" wildambience.com/albums/austr...

A new Powerful Owl chick, and family! It surprises me how urban these owls can be, we first heard this one at dusk accompanied by a doof doof soundtrack. It looks younger than others we know, it's yet to grow in any of its bat-like chevrons. #birds #wildoz #brisbane

A floofy Powerful Owl chick roosting high. For such an open, urban park it was surprising to not hear any mobbing by the resident Noisy Miners or Blue-faced Honeyeaters. They did go for the Sacred Kingfisher and the unexpected Royal Spoonbill feeding in the muddy pools.

Yawning Powerful Owl chick. Chicks switch from hard stare tracking to fast asleep in an instant, while the adults tend to snooze for most of the day. #birds #wildoz #brisbane

The floof is beginning to be replaced by chevons (heart/bat pattern) on the front of this Powerful Owlet.
