A varient of kobolds live near the shallow seas. They are fast swimmers and capable of holding their breath underwater

#tober2026 - Day 7

Felt burnt out on academics today, so I took some time to do something more creative: worldbuilding. My magic system needs another rework, so I started brainstorming for it. Since I did technically draw it and it was all done in the same day, I consider it to be tober-worthy

First stage brainstorm for how elemental magic might function in my world, consisting of wind, earth, water, fire, ice, and flora. Certain cycles exist to explain interactions between the elements at a rudimentary level.An adjustment to the initial brainstorm more in line with the original plan for the magic system, where there are two polarities to which elements can align. The alignment and how far something leans in one direction or another determines what it does: for instance, a cozy campfire versus an exploding fireball. The final, most comprehensive stage of the brainstorm where it’s understood that the four primary elements exist as a result of balance between syntropic (tendency for aether to congregate/stagnate) and entropic (tendency for aether to disperse/move around). This understanding starts to blur what the elements really are, and raises questions as to whether the entire world is really made up of these aetherial elements or if there’s something else at play. Rough idea for now is that aether was actually used to create the physical, but then became subject to some reflected traits of physical things. Subsets of elemental magic are simply alterations or slightly skewed alignment of the base four elements of water, fire, air, and earth. Elemental magic isn’t the only form of magic in my world, but it is the most prominent and the most misunderstood in the times it was most relevant (I.e. ages of swords and sorcery)
