At the top of the story, Loke hires Magnar because she needs someone to do things she can't. it comes with a full and fancy contract. otherwise, she struggles and would rather just take everything on herself.

As is really the theme with these, Mary has the biggest problems with asking for help.
She spent so long just accepting all the bad things happening to her, dissociating from herself, that even recognizing help is an option is hard.
She does get better with everyone’s help though.
#Septversary 5. Ashrah is not good at asking for help. Learning to retreat as a general was already a lesson she had to learn the hard way, and... asking for help is also a lesson she'll learn the hard way.
#Septversary 5!
When Amon goes through one of his episodes he is completely lost, nonverbal, and made of tears and snot. It becomes impossible for him to ask for help and he has to rely on the support of his bros. Thankfully his safety net catches him every time.
Real life tie-ins for me:

This is actually Tiferet's core problem. 😅 She can ask for help in a professional delegation sense, but her trust has been ground down so badly that she couldn't even talk to her deepest love about the mental/self-image problems she struggled with. She's made herself extremely
🧵
Lux has been self-reliant for so long that they don't know how to ask for help. It becomes a problem too when the witch that helped curse their friends starts messing with them.
Cara doesn't ask, she demands. Which, she learns the hard way initially when Lux argues about 1/
Gielle despises asking for help.
Particularly in the beginning, she's determined to push through everything on her own. Then something (spoilery) happens, and she realizes she's one little human.
But even then, asking is a monumental task.
Aloe/TFTNG - Acanthus struggles with this a lot. Cypress asks for help when he gets overwhelmed. Azalea almost never asks for help; she's used to being the helper. Austin never asks for help.
Rebecca from S3 never asks for help either.
... Wow, all of my characters. Lol

For Weslea, I don't think he minds asking for help so much, it's something he's done a few times, but I don't think he LIKES it.
I think for Weslea it's more a recognition that he's not perfect, he can't do everything himself, 🧵
A5. Ari is awful about asking for help because he can often literally do it himself & latent trust issues (just not all of it all at once). Similarly, Cy is wary about requesting or receiving help, because in his world, every present comes w/ strings.
#Septversary
A4. Ari is v empathetic & sensitive. This aspect of himself further others him, so he keeps it to himself. Reggie is the least empathetic because that would require introspection & Reggie isn't brave enough. #Septversary
A3. Yes! Ari and Cy are good at collabs/working well w/ others - though w diff intentions & leadership styles in different fields. Ari's issue is that he takes on a lot of work as a leader, Cy's issue is that he uses himself as a shield.

#Septversary Day 3: Collaboration
They're good at collaborating with each other. They kind of have to since Lacei couldn't run her bakery without her immediate family's support. The challenges they usually face come from what they encounter day-by-day.
#septversary Day 2: Being Myself
All of my characters believe in being themselves and they can be. I never wanted to rely on prejudice for conflict because we see it every day in real life, and it's low-hanging fruit, especially in fantasy fiction.
This is the thread that binds the three together—they’re all bad at it 😅🥲🫠
Korrin thinks he’s smart enough to work through any problem on his own, Dhivra has been a ruler for 12 years and reckons she’s got it figured out, and Rehni gets in over his head without even being aware.
A2. Cy is VERY proud to be himself. After years of being unable, Cy's goal is to be himself unapologetically. Ari used to be more himself, but has been hiding himself for survival. His arc is rediscovering himself.
Parallel character arcs and all that good stuff.
A1. Community is also important to my deuteragonist / love interest, Cy! After being divorced/disowned, Cy leaned on his remaining family, esp as he began his transition. Cy also has built a community of friends & colleagues thru the Alchemist Guild.

A1. Community is a help & hindrance in THE STAR BARON’S HUSBAND. Ari's protective of his family & friends (esp after the death of his parents), & while he had allies in his small-town, he's been isolated cuz Ari is semi-closeted & queer (gay + ace). He's othered amongst others.

Sibyl is actually quite willing to accept and even ask for help. The tricky bit is that is doesn't occur to her to ask for said help until things have gotten rather dire.
