‘Oh, no! I’m too late!’

‘For what?’

‘I ordered a new jib for the boat from Amazon. But a few hours later, I realized it was the wrong size, so I tried to cancel it.’

‘They get things out pretty quickly.’

‘I’ll say. They told me my #sail had shipped.’

Bucket list item no. 149: I want to slide down a #sail using a knife like they did in those old pirate movies.

We place paper boats on the lake and watch them #sail away. The wind blows some in circles and others back to shore. A couple capsize, but that's okay. I'm proud of you for not getting upset that most were lost. Your good one that stayed afloat for an hour? We'll talk about that one forever.

I set #sail today
Into uncharted oceans
Of a troubled mind

We set #sail from Vancouver through the inside passage of Alaska. It was by far our best cruise and not just because it was the first. Every leg of the journey contained oohs and ahs and views of splendor we couldn't have imagined before. Photos don't do the area justice.

We crossed the lake on a #summer day #funded by memories, the boat's #sail taught with the kiss of a warm breeze. Gulls barked at us, but they couldn't interrupt our laughter which rose to the fluffy clouds baking above on that lazy afternoon.

“Jen’s left Rob,” said Tim. “He can’t believe it!”

Laura put down the hammer. “By the time a woman sets #sail, she’s already built a boat & planned a route. I bet the signs were there.”

Tim nodded. “Seen my hat?”

“Here, by this boat I’m making.”

“Oh yeah. What time’s dinner?” #vss365

Holy is the lighthouse
Monkish keeper
Yellow-bright in the fog of night
Beam catching
on a far off ship's #sail
Sweeping it in gently
It is a fragile thing
To cross waters so wide
The fish it carries
To feed a village entire

The sailors spent the entire night scouring the ship in search of the creature to no avail

It continued to pick them off one by one from seemingly nowhere

By the time they checked the #sail and found its hiding spot, their numbers were too small to stop it

The boy woke up into nothing.

This was no dream, his father had told him this day would come.

He was a child of the universe.

Slowly stars appeared around him and he could see forever.

He spread his mind open, caught solar winds and set #sail in all directions at once, looking for home.

We #sail the seas
riding this current forever

Seeking point of entry
into the Port of Never

Our journey ends

We drop anchor

Now is the long awaited chance
for our wounds to heal
and take time to reflect

The next trip will depart soon enough

Taking us places we never expect

FAT PEARL (2)

I count the omens,
Peculiar symbols stitched into every #sail
(Curious and exotically violent).
Her figurehead changes with her politics,
Always a creature we can't quite identify.
“She’s a phantom,” bark the trembling drunks,
Hauling strange cargo from her stinking hold.

#vss365 The ship crossed the harbour without oars, crew or raised #sail. When fishermen boarded her, they found every sailor drowned, though the vessel had never sunk.

One corpse opened its eyes.

“Please,” it whispered. “Don’t let her reach the sea.” #Edvane #DarkFantasy

A richly illuminated medieval manuscript-style image. Fishermen with lanterns explore the flooded hold of an apparently abandoned sailing ship, where drowned sailors lie among barrels and dark timbers. In the foreground, one drowned man opens his eyes and desperately grips a fisherman’s arm, warning him not to let the ship reach the sea. The left parchment panel contains the story, with #Edvane #vss365 #sail beneath it.

Poem text by Kate LaDew:

a few sandwiches short of a picnic

but we'll make do
I tear our lonely sandwich in half
and give one half to you
the ants stay away, out of pity, no doubt,
so we lie on the grass, stare up at the sky,
and begin to count,
one dragon,
one unicorn,
one crocodile,
one whale,
two dolphins,
three elephants,
four pirate ships setting sail,
imagination slides slow slow slow across the blue,
if we spent our whole lives counting clouds
I think that would be enough for me and you
@ravenbranhard.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 11:09 AM

shrouded in darkness
lapped in a swirl of light
I sail across
the midnight sky
looking for the parts of me
the hurricane scattered away

I have searched
every shore
but the only place
I have not looked
is the eye

So I was just sitting in the dark, free-associating to the #vss365 prompt, and it occurred to me that sometime, somewhere some seaman looked up at the moon and saw it as a #sail drifting across the sky’s black sea.
