Because writing is the creative outlet into which I invested early on and no one needs to tell me that "talent" is only 10% innate gift, and 90% stick-to-it-iveness, determination, and dedication.

And I'm a little long in the tooth to start a new "talent" path. 😕

I write to explore myself, human nature, the beauty of the world & also the things that I wish would change. I write the stories I wish I could've read when I was younger, hoping someone else out there will find them & see the world a little differently.

#PretendPanel: I mostly write for myself, both in present day and for younger me who loved to make up stories but also had a numer of parts of her that she didnt see in them often.

Beyond that, I write a lot for my friends. Especially when I write based on my TTRPGs.

I write for myself, but I also am a hippy-dippy non-dualist type, so I believe there is no other! By writing what I want to read, I am assured that everything I publish is at least 1 person's favorite book. #pretendpanel

They tell you to always keep your audience in mind, and I try to do that. But if I don't first write for myself, I'll lose interest. It'll feel like a chore rather than a joy. I think of Jimmy Buffett's "Makin' Music for Money" and that's the vibe: "I wanna make my [writing] for me."
