“Few depend on… taxation as much as politicians… They are among the highest paid beneficiaries… Those who take up the anti-tax cause have to juggle the… interests of their voters and their… campaign funders by showing how the… self interest of the funders is… also in the interests of voters.
Interview of the day
Eaqub nails it
...the big promises that coalition partners made weren't really delivered either...they're not talking about the key things ...the Prefu assumes there'll be austerity

I can not stress enough as a lifelong asthmatic just how terrifying it is to a child to not be able to breathe
Asthma attacks that end in hospitalisation often come at night, waking up unable to breathe, foggy minded, befuddled. The mental trauma we are inflicting on these kids ☹️

Just so you know, I am getting a huge number of banner ads to vote #National from overseas, including on Stuff.co.nz - They are at the top and side of screen. The vast money being pumped into this campaign should be questioned. #nzpol Those ads aren't cheap, but should papers be running them at all?

Should house prices come down, even if that cuts the wealth of current homeowners? Greens +0.64, OPP +0.61 and Labour +0.54 all lean yes. NZ First leans the same way, more softly. ACT and National are left off: too few answers yet. https://kiwivalues.nz/research/housing-and-cities/ 4/10 #nzpol
Treasury's 2023 forecast for 2026, vs now:
Wage growth 4.0% → 2.8%
Unemployment 4.8% → 5.6%
Inflation 2.1% → 4.1%
GDP growth 3.3% → 1.6%
National promised to get the economy back on track. Three years on, it's worse than forecast on all four. Smaller pay rises, fewer jobs, dearer groceries. #nzpol
