THE STORY
“So, what’s the worst part of working at the aquarium?” Steph whispered to Richard as they watched the reef fish rifle through the coral.
“Morag,” he answered without hesitation.
“Morag?”
“Yeah, the eel in the shark tank,” he gestured to his right. “And don’t rag on me about Morag the Moray. Somebody else named the damned thing.”
“The sharks aren’t the problem?” Steph replied. “Or the sawfish?”
“Nah,” Richard snorted. “They’re all afraid of Morag.”
Steph quickly learned why as the pair headed into the shark tunnel and she came face-to-face with Morag chomping on the tail of a nurse shark.

THE STORY
“It’ll be fun,” Henry cajoled Daphne. “Just to the island and back.”
Daphne had always found it near impossible to resist her brother’s stupid ideas, putting that down to her bookish ways. But this one had her worried.
“We can ride the tide as it goes out,” he explained his plan. “We can then explore the island until the reverse tide helps us home.”
The teens had only been at their uncle’s seaside cottage a week when Henry first tried the kayak. Now, he acted like he was an indigenous seal hunter.
Setting her concerns aside to please her brother, Daphne slid into the second seat and the pair slid into the North Atlantic. They missed the island entirely.

#Technology: "Poetic technologies are not necessarily good (or bad). They can be dark, dangerous and destructive or tender and humane. #Imagination can create terrible worlds as well as beautiful ones."

I didn't post the continuation of these lyrics here but here they are (the two next verses and then the chorus again).

I hope you enjoy reading them. Also feel free to comment below any thoughts or feedback (as the song remains unreleased for now).

THE STORY
The elder remained transfixed on the sea as she had for hundreds of years prior, eyes never leaving the horizon, aching for the arrival.
The end times had been brutal and sudden, most of her kind having no time to bury themselves in the sand. But she had made it.
She had found refuge from the blood and from the screaming, but not from the anguish of survival and not from time.
As wind and rain had sculpted the beach over the centuries, the elder had finally resurfaced. The first of many signs that today was indeed the day.
Today, she was to be released from her prison to animate the land anew.

THE STORY
Rebel stared at Randall, knowing that he wasn’t supposed to bother the old man, but in his head, he wasn’t being a bother by quietly laying at his feet.
This was an old standoff, ever since Randall had bought the house and started inviting his grandparents over for barbecue dinners.
When the two lived closer to the older couple, Rebel would spend the day with the old man while Randall was at university and Gram was at her club.
The dog took comfort in Grandad’s scent and the palsy that ensured whenever the old man ate, so did Rebel.
Today, it was burgers. Rebel wasn’t bloody moving from this spot.

THE STORY
The Empire had long ago crumbled to dust, stony echoes dotting the landscape, but the passion in T’ika’s blood had not been quelled, merely quieted, awaiting its time.
The girl was small, but fleet of foot, and she was largely immune to the sharp stones as she sprinted across the crest of the cliff. She was late.
Distracted as she was, however, nothing escaped her attention. Not the iguanas scurrying into the thorny plants. Not the soaring clouds of frigate birds.
They were her teachers. They and the other animals guided her path forward.
A hundred meters from the long-discarded temple, T’ika slowed her pace and calmed her breathing.
Under the breeze, she could just make out… voices. Voices foreign to her ear.

When I doodled like this as a young teenager, I was unaware that it was a special ability.

Only later in life did I become aware that most people were denied this freedom.

And later still, to learn of #aphantasia
