Seen in profile is a large gray and black heron with a buffy-white head and neck which contrast nicely with the dark foliage off in the background. The log stands in shallow water with some dead branches sticking up off of it. THere are also a couple green reeds standing up along the right edge of the frame. We can see the heron's right, yellow eye and orangish beak. S/he aslo has a dark navy head stripe that is visible. The buffy neck feathers are very flowy and hang down toward the log below.

Peekaboo!

This Great Blue Heron retreated into the shadows to hide, creating strong #contrast for a profile shot.

The silly bird seemed unsure when a leaf covered its eye, whether it had become hidden or I had gone away.
