#Worldcon

The best thing about con going, for me, is conversing with people in the elevators and cafe tables and especially the vendors area- and this year off in Brea, where I finally speak to Anne, who I've known since sixth-season Buffy on Soulful Spike Society, an old Proboards chat. Yay Us!

Good morning! I continue to recover from #Worldcon

Kinda got lost on the Xena panel (or maybe the panel did) so I moved on to the fan edition of "Just a Minute", which I'm surprised many Americans (fans or not) have even heard of. Scheduled to run an hour, so I'll have to see if that large a dose of a radio panel game works on video. #worldcon

Well that was surprisingly interesting. I'm definitely not a romance reader but the panel was amusing and was a survey of the subgenre rather than "this is how you write/sell sports romance". Next #worldcon replay is "How Xena Changed the World". I wasn't a Xena watcher; see if I can follow this.

I am quite surprised to find that "hockey romance" is actually a really big subgenre. #worldcon #offtopic

Tonight's #LAcon #worldcon panel replay watch continues the August 28 sessions with "In Space, No One Can Hear You Laugh: Humor in Sci-fi". None of the panelists names are familiar to me, so we'll see how it goes.

(If I'm lucky, I will gather certain parts at a #Worldcon. No idea which.)

I think I will need to spend today dead for tax reasons 💤💤💤

#Worldcon was wonderful, but I don’t know if I could’ve survived another day. Good thing I have a little bit of sick leave available. Among other things, I have mostly lost my voice!

I did stick it out, and I kept shouting "COMMONWEAL, DAMMIT!" at my laptop while the panelists failed to mention it at all the relevant places. Yeah, sure, it's tagged "heroic fantasy" rather than "MilSF" but for real, books 1, 4, and 5 are all super about military operations. #worldcon

#Worldcon replay continues with "The Red Army: Leftist Military Science Fiction". Three of the panelists are barely audible, so I don't know how long I'll be able to tolerate this if they don't learn to address the microphone; I've got the volume turned all the way up and they're unintelligible.

The moderator noted that this trend *predates* the election of Trump: Worldcon75 in Helsinki, the first #Worldcon I attended, won the site selection in 2015, when most Americans regarded Trump as a joke candidate unlikely to win the primary let alone the presidency.

They discussed the significant shift in #worldcon locations from being almost exclusively in North America to being almost equally in NA and rest-of-world, some of the reasons for it, and the prospects for cons in still-underrepresented regions like Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
