A2 (for real this time): I think often stories set in the future identify a current issue and look ahead to see how it plays out - climate change, pocket sizes for women, pollution etc. I look back to the past in similar ways, I think - eg. in misogyny, parallels and changes... #WomenWritersNet

A2 #WomenWritersNet The idea for my WIP came from a real experience of being stuck in a toxic pollution event- but only for a short time. The genre of Speculative Fiction just made sense when I was imagining a longer term situation.
A2 - It would be interesting to think what my characters would be like in the future, but I must say past times is really my genre.

I suppose it's the attraction of the fact that the future is a fan of trajrctories... And you get to choose which one to follow. You can observe present trends, and phenomena, make some imaginative guesses. In honesty, I'm also quite scared of the future...

A2 #WomenWritersNet I like the ability to see how things could be different if we make certain choices. It's a great 'What if'. Also, it lets you explore the consequences of now, depending how those what ifs go.
A1 #WomenWritersNet Partly, it was a move to reduce climate change. Resource reduction was a goal, but some resources weren't being used as people abandoned areas that had cuts in services.
I'm working on a near-future cozy scifi story about the retail launch of on-demand pocket dimensions #WomenWritersNet (edit due to grammar)
Q2 Why are you drawn to setting your writing in the future? #WomenWritersNet
A1 #WomenWritersNet It's always worth considering!
This is A1, obviously. I'm looking into the future already! 😂 #WomenWritersNet
A1 #WomenWritersNet It sounds fascinating, Sandy! How far along are you?
A1 #WomenWritersNet I love the idea of on-demand pocket dimensions!
A2 No, I'm a recent-historical/folklore/fantasy sort of person! It's interesting to look at the recent past as a stepping stone to where we are now, which is another stepping stone to where we go next. The flow between genres - and the role myth plays in all of it - fascinates me. #WomenWritersNet

A1 #WomenWritersNet Do you ever have an epilogue that set in your characters' future?
Yes, Parch Marks is partly set in 2057 in York and the Pennines. It was released two weeks ago :)
The action centres on a very strange archaeological discovery
