@doctorscience.bsky.social@ezralevin.bsky.social what do you see in successful anti-authoritarian movements?
@chenoweth.bsky.social : 1. they keep getting bigger & more diverse. 2. they create a permission structure for elites to array themselves on the side of democracy.
#WhatsThePlan
@doctorscience.bsky.social@leahgreenberg.bsky.social says: what do we say to the people who say voting doesn't matter, only society-wide shutdown will do.
@chenoweth.bsky.social even in more authoritarian states, elections DO matter, do not underestimate them! they signal to elites what support they have
#WhatsThePlan
@doctorscience.bsky.social@chenoweth.bsky.social I'd add, the pocketbook. But the polls, voting, is the BIG way we participate, and getting people to participate early, to pay attention, is really important. And look at what Trump wants to do away with: early voting, mail voting.

@ibjoy80020.bsky.social@chenoweth.bsky.social says we're going a good job, friends❣️
She says we fight back in -
🪧the streets
🗳️the ballotboxes
⚖️the courts
💲the wallet
@doctorscience.bsky.social@ezralevin.bsky.social so, @chenoweth.bsky.social says we're moving in the right direction. And the next #NoKings is the biggest push to get an big, early vote.
@chenoweth.bsky.social says: @stevelevitsky.bsky.social says there are 3 areas we have to push back: polls, streets, courts
#WhatsThePlan
@doctorscience.bsky.social@chenoweth.bsky.social says: research says it takes about 18 months to 2 years to consolidate an authoritarian breakthru. Right now,
we're more organized, more prepared & more informed than
we've ever been to push back on that breakthrough
#WhatsThePlan
@doctorscience.bsky.socialLet's welcome @chenoweth.bsky.social !!
Their theoretical work on authoritarianism & non-violent resistance turns out to be super relevant to the moment we find ourselves in today.
Tell us, what time is it on the authoritarianism clock?
