GUESS WHAT HELPS This is hard. It’s hard to say something new in a way that will cut through the noise. Especially at this part of the election cycle. I get the emails and texts, too, you know? Texts that start with, “Is there anything we can say…?” as if that’s a good way to start a conversation. Hair on fire fundraising texts and emails raise money, that’s why candidates, and the party, and some other orgs all use them. We don’t. Why not? Because we don’t think being Chicken Little helps in the long term. And we’re in this partisan voter registration game for the long term. Speaking of long term. Guess what happens the day after the midterm election? Lots of things. Ballots continue to be counted. We start up our 2027-2028 cycle voter registration programs. And donations fall off a cliff. By now it’s not really a surprise, but that falling off a cliff feeling is still heartpoundingly real. We have expenses: databases, compliance, legal, accounting, software, infrastructure, data to be refreshed, and the list goes on. And we must keep the lights on if we’re to keep doing the work. Guess what helps us through what we affectionately refer to as the “fundraising doldrums?” Recurring donors. Right now, we have 620 monthly recurring donors. Together, they cover about a quarter of our monthly operating expenses, not including outreach costs. That’s a big deal. But imagine what we could do if we doubled that number. It’d mean a lot to us if a bunch of you signed up to be recurring donors – at whatever level is right for you. Help us sleep. And keep the lights on.
