"The most essential gift for a good writer is a built-in, shock-proof **** detector" (pg. 32). I understand how this could potentially be a good tool in the context meant being discussed in what the author intended to explain. My only question is how would one classify what is ****? #realityhunger
#realityhunger this entire passage is resonating with me since i feel like i've always valued authenticity (especially when it comes to myself)
Update to the last post: I now see at the end of the very same page the increase of urbanization and development also explain other likely-connected reasons for globalization and overall development leading to the categorization of the novel. #realityhunger
#realityhunger currently reading through 2 and I do not know a SINGLE one of these referenced medias besides borat (vaguely) and that's only due to its controversy and the bachelor so i feel like im just chewing names and spitting them out #confused #imtoobrownforthis
The first sentence of verse 35 stood out. I question this because today, at least, we have so many books and novels that categorized and classified in rigid groups. My first guess is increased globalization led to an increase in knowledge being shared, and thus books by that extent. #realityhunger
So far I am a little puzzled in terms of getting the overall point depicted in Reality Hunger. Each sub-section so far in chapter b seems to be jumping around between concepts. Perhaps I am reading too much into each piece of being made. I will take a step back to see the point. #realityhunger
"all the best stories are true" is very interesting. i think it makes stories more fascinating for sure as you keep thinking that this happened to a real person. #realityhunger
this section felt like it came out of no where as it is so different from the rest. It tells a story and is so descriptive. something we havent seen yet #realityhunger
I found it really neat for Reality Hunger bring up sub-section 12 (of chapter b). "Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, c. 800 b.c., are epics told in verse, not novels..." Structurally the page, and skimming over the other chapters, seem to retain the "verse" structure being talked about #realityhunger
it can be confusing when each paragraph talks about something different. sometimes theres so concrete flow #realityhunger
To follow-up with my previous post, I am now noticing some more of the deliberate words and diction chosen. Ultimately the underlined that I read seems to support the danger the artist faces in "smuggling" his/her opinions into their art. I consider the word choice here to be dramatic #realityhunger
In 23, I do not know anything about The Tale of Genji. Shields just dropped this but gave no summary about the book. I feel like I have to read about the book a little bit.
its amazing that something so simple was so revolutionary #realityhunger
its crazy to think that books in the 1800s could sell out on day one as there is a lack of spreading awareness about it compared to today as now we have social media #realityhunger
i never viewed landscape paintings as a type of journalism before but i can understand why it was viewed as one #realityhunger
of course. not shocking #realityhunger
I feel like the specific diction I chose to circle in red was pretty significant (even in the first sentence of the book). I feel like using the word "smuggle" in this context makes the audience feel the potential "danger" of unveiling an unfiltered opinion or stance. #realityhunger
its interesting that over time "rules" were created in literacy. in the past, writers could do whatever they want and still be considered a novel but today there are rules and expectations i wonder where these standards came from #realityhunger
i would like to read more about how books were mainly read by women in upper classes to "provide them with a sense of importance" #realityhunger
