#Orkney islanders and some visitors came together to stand in Vigil on the Kirk Green. They do this to raise awareness of the #Gaza Genocide and of the Palestinian People for Peace and Justice.

Good ideas start in Orkney.

Excited to be heading to Kirkwall for an afternoon of practical conversations about social enterprise, sustainability, funding and what comes next.

Spent a lovely afternoon in the fab @orkneylibrary.bsky.social #Archives this afternoon trawling a few more records for #PlaceNames! Today's focus was #Stronsay with names from a manuscript map and a poor distribution list! Love the drawing of the house of Huip! #Orkney

Collage of three photos of documents. One shows a little drawing of a house called Huip, another is titled 'Return for Stronsay Distribution 3rd June 1837, the last lists some of the places in the list.

Happy 479th Birthday to Miguel Cervantes who was born #onthisday in 1547 🎂

In his most famous work Don Quixote, the title character charges at windmills, mistaking them for monstrous giants with swords, so in tribute we're all going up Burgar Hill in #Orkney to tilt at the wind turbines. 🎉

Orcadian Gothic

A Neolithic couple stand before the chambered cairn of Wideford Hill #Orkney

Painting by Brian Lee, spotted on the Historic Scotland site interpretation board, in homage to Grant Wood's famous 1930 painting

Well played 👏

A stone #Papay stile today for @judithjesch.bsky.social & @lakesstiles.bsky.social between Scarra Ber (ON skarfr 'shag' & 'rock') & The Sneck, perhaps Scots 'latch of a door or gate' in the sense of closing off the hill dyke here to prevent stock from crossing at low tide #Orkney #PlaceNames

Colour photo of a stone wall with stone slabs built into it acting as steps over it with an upright post atop the wall to hold on to. The wall juts out across a rocky shore seemingly into the deep blue sea.
