Amused by
Alternate spelling
Of words British
And American
As if English
Not tricky
Enough

But harbouring
A secret desire
For a language
A little more exotic

A preference
For grey skies
The colour of
Aluminium
Learnt early

‘I used to live right there.’

‘There? That’s the #harbour. You mean you used to live on a houseboat?’

‘I did. I met the man of my dreams-he lived on the boat right next to me. Everything was great in the beginning, then it was a tragic romance story.

‘What happened?’

‘We drifted apart.’

No eyes see her arrive, just the empty slip she leaves behind
We whisper of her passage -- a ghostly ship we'll never find
resting in a #harbour, just beyond horizon's line.

We board her sister ship -- Today.
While dry-dock stores the Yesterday.
May fair winds guide us on our way
as we search for the Tomorrow.

fighting the storm
to reach your #harbour
to your safety
where the devils of the sea
can no longer reach me

In the harbour
after midnight
the mist rolls through
In a place I shouldn't be
Just water slapping seaweed
All sinister and slippery
Cold and dank
and nothing to see
Walking planks
on a blackened sea
unknown and narrow
under me

A lighthouse is a warning
here is no #harbour
Lighthouse keepers are lonely
their job is to say, keep away
Pointing to rocks and shoals
is a solitary job
Better like your own company
the rest are down at the pier for the carnival
Nobody warned them about the hucksters

Worry would be easy to justify now. There are many things that could go horribly wrong. Instead, I choose to #harbour anticipatory optimism. As I wait for the big things to turn out right, I can't help but notice all the little things that already do.

The #harbour kept returning the dead.

Not bodies, memories.

Every morning, fishermen found yesterday’s arguments floating between the boats: apologies, betrayals, things never said.

Then, this morning, it returned my childhood.

I recognized the house immediately.

It was still burning.

Poem text by Kate LaDew:

it took paul mccartney two minutes

to write the groove and rhythm,
                                        the melody of "get back"
mozart composed his last 3 symphonies
                                        in six weeks
charlie parker came up with 8 bar melodies
                                        on the spot
b.b. king wrote "lucille" in the studio,
                                        improvising over ten minutes
                                        a spoken word blues track
of how he got his gibson back,
great things don't always need time
but they last, echo and echo and echo
a harbor of hopes and schemes
                                        and the universe hums
whether we hear it or not
                                        a needle skip-skip-skipping
                                        as the record spins
playing the same story over and over again
                                        the same note
                                        remember when, remember when
                                        BANG BOOM
                                        and the world begins

As a jingoistic
proud America First patriot
I condemn you stuffy Brits
for bastardizing our English language

Don't ride up in a Lift

Don't shit in a Loo

It's spelled harbor NOT #harbour

We don't need the extra U

Don't make us do Tariff punishment

Thank you for your attention

FAT PEARL

30 years adrift and now she's here,
Lights out,
Sleeping in the #harbour.

We loiter in tired inns
On the slopes of Eastside,
Drowning our fear
In malt and silly tales.
When red-nosed sots
Talk of movement above deck,
We lower our gaze
To the boils on our swollen feet.

push any #Harbour off all flooded coasts

I'd harbour your heart
Given half a chance because
My dry dock is free

was i a ghost
in my absence

a regrettable silence
binding a vacuumous fate

did you sigh away
the gossamer tethers
as i yet dreamt
of your clavicle
and my lips

did your secret verse
still harbour
some sacred memory
of me

"I hope you still don't #harbour a grudge," he laughed taking another mouthful of pasta.

"Of course not," she said forcing a smile.

Then he collapsed holding his throat.

"Not anymore..." she said as she wrapped up his dead body.

You seek harbour, just like a ghost of yourself that imagined being some place to breathe - even if you couldn't do that all the way anymore, like the people on their hundred vacation, or in simple uniform mid-tier fealty, seem to do.
