Food, clothes, education, every day he's only given the best in everything. It's a lifestyle he does not particularly enjoy but he's never known anything else.

Roland lives in a tiny house in a tiny town in the Deep South. He's panicking because his father just died, his brothers all fucked off or died in WWI, so he has no support.

His life is spiraling out of control... at least his BFF offered to let him live with her in NYC (or SF).

Caly lives with the other Rejects in an Underground (metaphorical and literal) safe house.

She works as a bakery assistant for a shop that funnels information to the Underground (and makes a wickedly good eclair).

At least until Testing Day.

#FirstDraftFall Arthur and Cedric share an apartment in Eldaven, the capital city of Eldana, a queendom steeped in magic. (It's specifically based on Victorian Europe, a mix of Paris and Amsterdam with a dash of London.) Arthur operates his business out of said apartment.

Jake was the only child in a lower middle class family, gradually drifting away from his messy but caring parents to the streets, where he was raised by Pat, a used car salesman, turned drug dealer. His father died young, hasn’t spoken to his mother in years.

Caly grew up in a quiet district of the city, "conveniently" located in the heart of the Underground.

Her fathers were both on the Roster, which meant every other year, they went into the raffle. When she was 12, they died the same night.

I don't have an answer to this one, as where Jevin grew up is pretty unimportant to the story. That said, I did make the decision that he was supported by his family when he transitioned. I didn't want that level of angst in his backstory!

Mega is a San Jose native. Her mother raised her alone until she died when Mega with 12. After that, she was raised by her grandmother, who struggled with the responsibility because of health problems. #FirstDraftFall #writing

Callum grew up on planet, in a more rundown part of the capital city. I am not sure about his family at this point, but I don't think they're really around.

Evelynn grew up in Walnut Creek, CA, a cozy suburb of the San Francisco Bay Area. Her parents raised her. However, given her celebrity status, she credits MTV and VH1 and all the movies she's seen raising her to be the celebrity she is.

#FirstDraftFall Darin Wallace (another MC) was a street urchin in the Capital of Ailovell. A highly decorated soldier found him trying to steal while on patrol and took him in, raising him with her wife. Darin thereafter grew up well educated and was trained in combat, taught well by both his moms.

Auri grew up in Ardyl in Scaunia, which I will probably rename. It's very boring there to her and she hates it. She grew up with her parents, who run a tea shop, and two older sisters. Damián grew up in [I need to name it] with his mother, a senator, and younger brother Daniel. #FirstDraftFall
