Made Bullace Jam this morning.
It’s very nice and passed the OH test!!
It’s a little bit thin though. The good news is that the one I’ve put in the fridge has thickened up.

šŸ„ #MushroomMonday: Earthstar

Rain makes this mushroom puff like a tiny chimney! Its skin splits into a star, and every raindrop that hits the sac squeezes out a little cloud of spores.

In Under the Elm, find it in the Cave ⭐

I believe this little beauty is a young & poisonous Amanita bisporigera, in the Amanitaceae family. Also called the Eastern Destroying Angel, likely because if you eat it, you may meet some angels after your liver is destroyed. I might be wrong. #foraging #fungifriends #mushrooms

🫐 There’s something very satisfying about spotting clusters of dark, glossy elderberries in the hedgerows.

ā¤ļø There’s something rather lovely about spotting a hedgerow full of bright red hawthorn berries.
Pop the kettle on and have a read 🌿

Just foraged 1.2kg of Bullace for jam making next week.

I have verified as best I can that these are indeed Bullace.
1. Sloes, I know are smaller and have thorny branches.
2. Damsons are oval in shape.
3. Bullace are round, bigger than sloes and have no thorns.
Am I right?

The mushroom you pick is only the fruit. The real organism is the mycelium below ground. After rain, experienced foragers wait for the right moment to return. https://indiefoodblog.blogspot.com/2026/09/mushroom-weather.html #Mushrooms #Foraging

Most likely the last few milk caps of the season, but with this weather, who knows. #Foraging #Fungi

Wild/urban agaricus mushrooms. Cousins of button/cremini/portabello. Headed for stew pot. Pleasant, mild mushroom scent. (Not phenol/lab chemical scent like the toxic "lose your lunch bunch.") Spore print: dark brown, not white like amanitas. Destined for stew pot. #mushrooms #foraging #agaricus
