Day 30: Vestige
Shunye travels to his former village with Uvlo in an effort to make peace with his past.

G|1,243 words|Dawntrail NPCs/Spoilers. M/M. Shunye x Uvlo. CW: Loss.

An excerpt from the Final Fantasy XIV fanfiction "Flowers on the Mountainside" by EscaFox.

Text:
He stumbled forward, pack falling off him to hit the ground with a loud clatter as he dropped to his knees amidst the flowers. His fist pounded hard against the earth, sending a painful jolt through his arm, but he didn't care as he struck again and again.

"Hey…hey…it's okay…" Uvlo hushed soothingly and embraced him.

Shunye could see the concern in his lover's eyes and the storm of rage welling up inside him started to abate. "I'm sorry…It seems that the land has moved on and clearly I have not," he murmured, tilting his head towards the sprouting foliage.

While I was too shy to share my work outside friend discord, this was my first year actually participating in #FFXIVWrite2026! I've only written fiction a handful of times in my life and havent written much outside work since college so it's been fun to explore writing and find joy in it!

In the Fourth Reflection, Nayra meets someone who is the spitting image of her sister. (7.56 spoilers)

#ffxivwrite #ffxiv #myfic #estinien #visna

The moment Nayra spotted Visna on the ship, she immediately knew who the girl was supposed to be. Bubbly and bright, with tufts of fluffy pink hair adorning her head and a mischievous grin parting her lips, Nayra didn’t need Emet-Selch’s soul-seeing ability to know Visna was a shard of her sister’s soul.

After Visna sent them to inspect the island and help set up fire stones, Nayra would occasionally find her gaze drift toward the little girl at the center of the island working on some sort of contraption along with her Elezen companion. Nayra had never let herself dwell on it. Sensing her sister’s presence, along with her parents’, at Aitiascope had been more than she had hoped for. To know that they had left peacefully with not a shred of blame toward her… Nayra had lingered outside Ragnarok’s hangar for a time, if only to recall the warmth which had enveloped her hand and pushed her back and carve it into memory.

#ffxivwrite2026 is complete. Every day, one entry written and submitted ON TIME and shared publicly. Every part of that sentence is a surprise to me, considering it wasn't until hour 18 of day 1 that I even decided to start. Imagine how dangerous I would be if I could do this... consistently.

The crystal sat in the middle of the table, an innocuous little thing glinting amber in the reflected firelight. The main area of the company house was blessedly quiet, for a miracle, most of the friends and companions Pye and Orestes had gathered on their travels out for the time being. Rinalle perched on a bench, alternating leaning toward and away from the crystal. Pye clattered around the kitchen, sulkily making something Orestes would consider “normal food,” and Orestes poked at the crystal with a finger.

“What is it supposed to do?”

Day 30: "Vestige"

This one is (mostly) game canon compliant, with a little bit of creative liberty on the exact depiction of events. In other words, this is not canon to the longfic or any of my other fills so far.

#FFXIVwrite2026 Day 30: Vestige

We close on the afterglow of Thancred's religious experience.

Thancred felt drained of more than his bodily fluids by the time they were finished. He basked in Urianger's soft glow, hair tossled across the pillow. This close, he could sense when the pace of Urianger's soft breath shifted, when a gentle bask in the afterglow turned to anxiety. He watched the tilt of Urianger's eyeballs as they slowly lingered aross the bite mark Thancred could feel pleasantly throbbing on his neck."So," Thancred said, feeling he might as well break the ice quickly. "Bahamut. Is that your proper name?"

Urianger sighed the delicate sigh of a man regretting the loss of a brief moment of peace. "No. The moniker is not mine, but his. The entity to which mine life is bound."

"That sounds…complicated," Thancred said placidly. The art of a great listener came in hearing the most absolutely unhinged statements and reacting as if you'd been told the morrow's weather prediction. Thancred was a fantastic listener.

Urianger shifted, bringing his sharp nose against the curve of Thancred's shoulder. "Aye, quite so. T'is a connection I have held since my youth, since a chance encounter with a device found in a New Sharleyan archeological site."

Thancred sleepily followed along with Urianger's description of the dig site and its contents. Something about the Allagans studying tempering and draconic magics under controlled situations using small-scale modeling. Urianger's elegantly woven words seemed to duck and weave around the main issue.

Thancred interrupted the flow with a delicate touch to Urianger's right ear. The elezen quivered as Thancred's fingers drew up the length to softly pinch the tip.

"A primal," he whispered, saying the words that Urianger had been most purposefully avoiding. The words that meant a force that warped nature itself and corrupted all who came near it, save for those personally guarded by Hydaelyn's blessing. "This Bahamut is a primal."

"A-aye, but not of the sort we seek to thwart!" Urianger said hurriedly. It was cute, how the brightness of his eyes seemed to shift with his emotions, soft and gentle in the afterglow of sex and flaring bright with panic. "One summoned in a deliberately weakened state, so weak he cannot even manifest physical form unaided. A vestige of a being, raised from the memories of captured dragons crying out for safety and vengeance, wounded creatures baying for their father's succor. All…long dead, I am sure." His face turned side further, the glow muffled by the pillows.

Thancred resettled himself one arm around Urianger's lanky form. "Who else knows?"

"Master Louisoix and a few of his comrades, all sworn to secrecy. Mine adopted family, of course, t'would be impossible to hide such a condition from them. Few others beyond this, who did not witness mine troublesome first days as Bahamut's host."

"I see. So how did that go, then?"

Urianger breathed out slowly. "Once he had acertained the nature of mine situation, Master Louisoix didst have the kindness to put me into a alchemical stupor, that I might not rend mine comrades with fangs and talons which I didst not understand I lacked. In that stupor, contained and bound, Bahamut and I did reconcile to each other. Meditation and study, too, did quiet his rage within me. Mine daily sup provides sufficient aether for his purposes, that he does not drain from the land itself, and his rage doth not drive me to violence as once it did. Our bond hath now become that of cooperation, not of parasitism."Thancred ran his fingers down Urianger's lanky arm, listening to Urianger describe the way his arcane abilities were enhanced by Bahamut's aide. Even as elezen went Urianger was on the thinner side under those robes, and pale as milk from staying indoors too long. Not Thancred's usual type at all. He liked powerful people.

But then, power came in different shapes. Some of those shapes had wings.

"After a time, I came to find the presence comforting," Urianger admitted, almost embarassed. "And in truth, such a being represents knowledge and culture long lost to this world, pale reflection though he is of the Bahamut who once lived and breathed. I now find I would be loathe to have his presence expunged from me, were such a thing even possible so many years later."

"Does he speak to you?"

"Not always in words, but…yes, of a fashion."

"Hm. What's he think of me?"

Urianger lifted his head, clearly not expecting the question. "Of thee?"

"Aye."

"Mmm." Urianger tilted his head thoughtfully. Thancred wondered if he was simply thinking or listening to the roaring voice of his inner dragon. Perhaps by now the two were impossible to distinguish. "At first, a troublesome gnat. Then a threat, for he knoweth well the consequences should our bond become publicly known. But then you did speak kind words to me, and come to me with such tenderness." A gentle smile drifted across Urianger's face. "And though Bahamut may sustain his survival from mere bread and apples, his nature remains. Thine words were the closest to worship that he hath sensed in an age. I suppose I must apologize for mine enthusiasm in leaping upon thee so hastily. Your honeyed words stirred his hunger for praise most unbearably."

"So that was all Bahamut, then? Poor you, just along for the ride?" Thancred teased.

Urianger flushed sunset-red, from his high cheekbones along the ridge of his long ears. "Our interests were…convergent," he muttered into the pillow. "Mine apologies for thine bruises, I shall heal then anon."

"No, no, you can leave them. It's not every day I get a hickey from my god."

The lamp-bright flaring of Urianger's golden eyes at the deliberately-chosen phrasing of 'my god', the way the long fingers on Thancred's side suddenly clenched into the shape of talons, the sharp tang of his ambient aether against Thancred's tongue, all said Thancred wasn't getting out of here without another round of devotionals.

#FFXIVwrite2026 Day 29: Layer

More like LayHim am I right lololol.

Urianger might be more gorgeous with his clothes off. For once Thancred wasn't paying attention. When they're skin to skin, each kiss breathing more of that golden glitter down his throat, Thancred found his perception of the man in his arms growing further and further from the carnal. It was as if he was holding the entire sky in his arms, the stars delivering tiny pinprick kisses as he fell into the massive dark void that cradled them. As if the frail knobby-kneed elf in his arms was only a thin layer of paper wrapping that contained something of endless, beautiful power. Thancred's heart was racing, his mouse-brain shrieking that he was in danger. But he could not look away.

Traveling bard made for a good disguise, and so Thancred had educated himself on writing poetry and song to keep the cover up. It availed him naught here. Nothing in his skillset was adequate to describe what being embraced by this man felt like.

"Praise me. Bless my name. Pledge your faith and fealty to me." They were moving. Friction was occurring. And Thancred, who usually found himself doing most of the work, was simply hanging on for the ride. "Urianger, beautiful man you are—"

"No. My name. Praise it."

"Any name you please, oh—"

"My name, mortal!" he snarled, in that language that spoke only to Thancred's soul and not his ears.

"What name, damnit!" How was he supposed to think when the light of the stars was dancing along his skin like this?

Urianger leaned forward and bit his ear sharply, only to whisper, "Bahamut. Your god is the Dreadwyrm Bahamut."

Thancred did not yet know that name. In a few short years all of Eorzea would be familiar with it, the falling blood-red moon, the shadow that blocked out the sun, the end of the era.

His lips opened and worship fell from them like delicate meteorites skimming across the night sky. "Praise to the Dreadwyrm Bahamut, to his teeth and tail. To his wings spread out across the stars, to the shine of his ears, to the glint of his teeth."

Urianger, and the thing Urianger was wrapped around, let out a loud and satisified purr, a thrust of the hips, and then—

"More!"

(Sometime after 7.0) Yona goes up to the lake in Urqopacha. Just because it's nice.

omg it's only two hours to midnight it would have been very funny (tragic) to drop the ball on the last day.

ellipsus.com/read/7MPe3vT...

The Yok Huy had fretted horribly before Yona left Worlar's Echo. They loaded up the alpaca with what seemed like a week's worth of dried meat and fruit, one warned her of the cold and attempted to pile woolen coats onto her shoulders, another offered to travel with her to fend off beasts or opportunistic Chirwargur. Zurmurwur shuffled over, large eyes barely open, and waved his worried fellows away while yawning. Maybe it seemed strange to them that she showed up early in the evening and asked permission to travel near Worqor Lar Dor. She didn't need to ask, Gurfurlur assured her, not after all that she had done. Stranger still was that she had decided to leave late in the night - or early in the morning, depending on your perspective - and seemed somewhat baffled that such a choice would invite concern.

"Worqor Lar Dor will still be there when the sun rises," Zurmurwur said wearily.

Yona nodded with a smile. "I know."
