A blackbird grasps the narrow branch of a berry bush with delicate and thin claws, facing toward the right in profile. She is framed by two branches that meet at the center top of the frame, and another branch that arcs across the bottom of the frame. She looks bedraggled; the dark feathers around her head and breast are sparse and frayed. Her darker, almost black, wing droops. Her tail is mostly hidden behind blurred green leaves in the foreground. In the background are veined green leaves. Blurred raspberries provide pops of red.
